What's New at Holland
Don't let the cold slow you down
If you're shipping products that are sensitive to cold temperatures, don't let fear of freezing slow down your supply chain. Our Freeze Protection Service makes sure your shipments remain at temperatures greater than 32 degrees Fahrenheit.
If you'd like to receive email alerts when cold weather affects Holland shipments, click here.
Along with the largest network of next-day delivery points in the region, our operational efficiencies ensure your shipments move quickly to their destinations, usually before noon. Less time in transit means less time for freezing to occur.
In addition, each of our service centers maintains a supply of technically-engineered and environmentally safe cargo quilts designed to maintain the temperature of your shipment from pickup to delivery. Cargo quilts are available where and when you need them.
Most important, our systematic approach to freeze protection works! During the 2009-2010 winter with freezing temperatures in almost every state in the country, our Freeze Protection service provided 99.99 percent claims-free delivery. In fact, out of more than 59,000 Freeze Protection shipments last year, Holland processed only 21 paid claims!
Simply mark your shipments and bills of lading with "protect from freezing" to receive specialized Freeze Protection Services:
- Available on all direct-service points, including Ontario and Quebec
- Pickups made five days a week, including Fridays
- CargoQuilt® covers conveniently stocked throughout the network
- Terminal warm rooms available for weekend use
- More than 40 years' experience protecting temperature-sensitive shipments

Transportation solutions to support today's inventory management strategies
The recession of 2008 and 2009, followed by a struggling recovery, is leading many businesses to tightly manage their inventory levels. This frequently creates the need for either smaller shipments which must move quickly or larger shipments which move less often.
Holland understands the challenges you're facing and offers solutions to help you manage your inventory levels efficiently and cost-effectively.
Use our Consolidation services to combine orders from multiple vendors and create a full truckload shipment. Or our Distribution services let you plan a truckload delivery to one of our service centers where we can separate the load for deliveries to multiple destinations.
Holland can help you:
- lower costs. Our service centers support distribution center bypass strategies for reductions in warehouse locations and associated inventory.
- increase flexibility. Cross-docking solutions, customized to meet your exact requirements, allow products to flow directly where they're needed, enabling you to quickly respond to changing market conditions or customer needs.
- make it simple. With the convenience of a single point of contact, you experience the expertise of transportation engineers, efficiencies of online technology tools and the reliability that comes from a leader in on-time, claim-free service.

|Service company recognizes great service
Holland employees take pride in their work, and it shows in their positive attitude and willingness to help customers, whether big or small!
"Just a note to thank you for the great service that your company [Holland] provided to me over this past year . . . When it comes to 'small businesses,' you can't get any smaller than mine, one person, me . . . my business is mobile RV service. Most of the time I am on the road away from my office, unable to waste a day waiting for a delivery.
"The folks at the local terminal (Youngstown, Ohio) . . . ensure I know when I have a delivery coming, so I won't miss it. When dealing with other carriers in the past, this personalized service always seemed to be a hassle for them, and one even wanted to charge me extra for it.
"The drivers are polite and courteous. . . . you are truly hiring good people that genuinely care about every customer . . . going well beyond what I have received from any other carrier. THANKS FOR THE GREAT SERVICE. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!"

A Place Holland Calls Home
Is it any wonder that a city known for breweries, motorcycles and Happy Days is also called the City of Festivals? Just ask the locals, and you'll find out there's something always happening in Milwaukee!
This month alone, the city has 10 different festivals—film and music styles, tall ships even seeds each have their own events. And that's only in October! Over the course of the year, there are dozens of events to entertain and inform visitors, including "the world's largest music festival," Summerfest, presented over a 10-day period in late June and early July.
Founded in 1818 as a fur-trading post on the shores of Lake Michigan and the Milwaukee River, Milwaukee offers visitors boat trips, brewery tours and Brewers baseball games. Of course, no trip to Milwaukee would be complete without attending a Friday Fish Fry, occurring every week at almost every restaurant.
Milwaukee is a place Holland has called home since 1981 when we opened our first service center in the city. Years passed, business grew, and in 2002, we moved to South 6th Street into a new service center, featuring 104 doors and more than 19 acres of yard space.
One of the largest operations in the Holland network, the Milwaukee service center delivers confidence with next-day service that reaches as far as Kansas City, Mo; Nashville, Tenn.; and Pittsburgh.
Today, more than 100 professional city drivers take to the streets each day from our Milwaukee service center. Equally impressive are the safety records of our drivers. Currently, 15 active linehaul drivers have achieved a million miles without a preventable accident, and two drivers have attained the two-million milestone. Quite an accomplishment, particularly when you consider the lake-effect snowstorms known to hit Milwaukee from October to April.
Holland knows Milwaukee, and shippers know they can count on Holland, the leader in next-day service. To schedule a pickup, go to hollandregional.com or call 1-866-465-5263.

U.S. trade deficit narrowed more than expected in July
During July, imports fell 2.1 percent, and exports rose 1.8 percent to their highest level in almost two years, causing the trade deficit to narrow by 14 percent to $42.8 billion, according to Commerce Department reports. Results exceeded forecasts and reflect less demand for overseas products.
U.S. industrial production growth slowed in August
Cut backs in automotive production affected industrial production growth in the United States, slowinggrowth to 0.2 percent in August, according to Federal Reserve data. When excluding motor vehicles and parts, total U.S. industrial production in August increased 0.5 percent for the month.
Committed to improving highway safety
Figures released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration revealed a 20 percent decline in the number of truck-involved traffic fatalities. The data for 2009 puts fatalities at the lowest level in recorded Department of Transportation history. "These latest figures illustrate the trucking industry's deep commitment to improving highway safety," says Bill Graves, president and CEO-American Trucking Associations. "ATA will continue to advance its progressive safety agenda in an effort to further this outstanding trend."
